The Oilman Weekly Newsletter Greenpeace, the anti-exploration environmental body which is campaigning against activity in the Atlantic frontier, threatened to form a human barrier by throwing protesters into the water to prevent the seismic vessel Pacifc Horizon from starting 2,000 sq kms of 2D seismic on Texaco's 17th round Block 153. The group's vessel Greenpeace had launched three inflatable boats into the path of the seismic ship as it approached the block. The Pacific Horizon steered away from the area as Texaco, which stressed it works to the government's environmental and safety requirements, had instructed the captain not to get involved in any confrontational situation. It returned to the area during the night and found no trace of Greenpeace protesters and began shooting the seismic survey.(np) |
