Protest - Many holidaymakers and locals saw much activity on the Ullapool pier at the beginning of the month when six Greenpeace activists boarded the oil-exploration ship, Atlantic Explorer which was berthed at the pier.

They chained themselves to various areas of the vessel including the helideck, the bow and stern ropes, and a crane, to which they also secured a large banner with the words 'No new oil - Greenpeace". The following morning saw the arrival of some 16 policemen and large crowds witnessed the spectacle of five men and a woman being arrested.

The Atlantic Explorer left Lochbroom during the afternoon for testing for oil for Conoco in the Atlantic frontier west of St Kilda.
