Thank you for your letter of 9 May. It communicates very clearly the objectives of your campaign and the premises on which it is based.

I believe that Greenpeace plays an important role in highlighting potential environmental problems and in stimulating discussion about them. However, in designing a campaign, it is all too easy to over-simplify complex issues and to gloss over uncertainties. Ranger considers that informed discussion should take place within the United Kingdom on the issues that you raise in your letter and, alongside the other members of the oil and gas industry, will be happy to participate in such debate.

Meanwhile, Ranger and its partners will continue to operate in an environmentally responsible manner on the UK continental shelf in accordance with the terms of our licences issues by Her Majesty's Government and in line with all applicable regulatory requirements. We do not propose to "pressure" governments on environmental issues but, together with our industry partners, wish to contribute constructively to any discussions where our input is relevant.

I would appreciate your following up your offer of sending additional information that you have available regarding your campaign. Ranger is keen to keep informed about concerned opinion on our industry activities.

Yours sincerley

Philip Dimmock
