I refer to your letter of 23rd April. I apologise if you have previously inferred from me that BP's production is declining. I have not intended to give you that impression. It is the UK's production that will be declining, despite any contribution from the west of Shetland, as I indicated in the attachment to my letter of 9th April. I am a bit puzzled by your comments regarding Friends of the Earth Scotland. We have been unable to find the "demand" for withdrawal of our "New Frontier" leaflet to which you referred. I presume this is the letter also referred to in the FoE media release you attached. Having said that, I have just received a letter dated 30th April from Kevin Dunion at FoE Scotland, requesting withdrawal of our leaflet. Mr Dunion does not refer to any earlier request. I have now taken up this matter directly with him. As you point out, the real issue that we need to address is climate change. I believe that the most productive step for us to take at this stage is for BP and Greenpeace to meet and discuss our respective views. Therefore, I have asked Peter Scupholme, whom you know, to contact you to arrange a meeting to allow such an exchange to take place. In addition, your colleague Chris Rose will shortly be receiving an invitation to attend a business forum in June. This forum, which follows the publication of BP's HSE Facts document, will provide an opportunity to discuss BP's environmental performance and the issue of climate change. I believe this will be an excellent opportunity to discuss a range of important issues and I do hope he will be able to attend. Yours sincerely
